These Mad Dogs of Glory is a rock n roll band based in Austin, Texas. Ryan O’Sullivan on vox/guitar, Brian Bowe on drums/vox, Nick Richman on pedal steel, & James Hart on bass/vox. The band formed in Austin at the outset of 2010. Both O’Sullivan re-located from Connecticut & Richman from Maryland when they met up in 2008. Former bassist Justin Baker joined in ’09 by way of Cincinnati, with Brian Bowe coming down from Dallas rounding out the line-up in January 2010. The first EP was recorded & produced by the band, released in 2011, performed on Fox 7 Good Day Austin & Balcony TV, & at over 100 shows in Austin, North & Central Texas as well as parts of the Mid-West. With the parting of Baker in Summer of ’11, TMDOG played on as a trio, until after months of auditions, finally found their bassist in Michigan born Hart. The new EP was underway with the new TMDOG incarnation in March 2012.
“Sweet Appalachia” is the follow-up to These Mad Dogs of Glory’s self-titled premiere EP of early 2011. Since then the line-up has shifted to include a new bassist and the opportunity to record with local reputable producer Erik Wofford of Cacophony Studios (The Black Angels, White Denim, Explosions in the Sky). This collaboration at Cacophony is documented via a music video of tracks “Appalachian Funk #1” & “2” filmed by Aaron & Jaime Brown of Onion Creek Productions. “The songs on ‘Sweet Appalachia’ were written as a way to recapture the love of growing up in New England, dealing with the death of a loved one, & accept a life, living on the road”, says chief songwriter Ryan O’Sullivan. The earthy rock n roll grit of “Sweet Appalachia” serves to be a great testament to the roads that have led to this new era of These Mad Dogs of Glory.
